Variants are extra properties on enemies in later generations. An enemy you recognize may have stronger armor or recover health through lifesteal.

Press "Depart" in "Tower" and inspect variants and counter information on the scouting screen. An enemy can carry several variants, so read the properties beside its name as a group.

Review variants after taking unexpected damage from a familiar enemy. Check your party for a way through heavy defenses or the damage needed to finish an enemy that keeps recovering.
